"Reboot" - a new album of Brooks & Dunn (My Review) [English Version]
Hey 😉
I have not written for a long time on the blog because I had to focus on classes at the university.
I gave my master thesis so I have more time now. 😁 During my absence, several artists have released new albums. I will try to present my opinion about everyone as far as possible.
I gave my master thesis so I have more time now. 😁 During my absence, several artists have released new albums. I will try to present my opinion about everyone as far as possible.
Today I will write about a new album released by a very well known (in the USA) duo of Country music or Brooks & Dunn (I wrote a post about these musicians before). Their 11th album is entitled "Reboot", which appeared on April 5, 2019 after several years of break (artists focused on solo careers). It contains 12 new versions of songs that are the famous hits of this duo. Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn invited artists who only recently began their careers in this music genre to record this CD:
1. Brand New Man - the original version is on the 1st album of musicians of the same title, which was released in 1991. The artists perform it with Luke Combs, who has just begun to gain recognition of fans of this kind of music. I used to write about him and especially about his voice which I like very much. Listening to the first time this song I write honestly could not distinguish his voice from Ronnie's vocals. I like the intro of the song, but also the fact that they left the original musical arrangement.
2. Ain't Nothing 'Bout You - the song appeared for the first time on the 7th album of the "Steers & Stripes" duo released in 2001. You can hear here the singer Brett Young, who started his career in 2016. I admit that I do not know his songs but I liked his voice in the refreshed version of this composition. The current musical arrangement is a bit different from the original one, but it does not bother me.
3. My Next Broken Heart - the composition appeared on the debut album Brooks & Dunn and was the 2nd single of the previously mentioned album (see item 1). The song is made by Jon Pardi, who started performing from 2012. In one of the interviews Brooks & Dunn said that Jon did not want to change anything in this song and I honestly say that it was a good decision. Their voices match well.
4. Neon Moon - the original version of the song can be heard on the 1st album, which was released as the third single promoting this album. The current version is dominated by Kacey Musgraves. The artist began her musical career in 2012. Personally, I prefer the first version because even though her voice is great, I think that Brooks & Dunn should be more audible in this composition.
5. Lost And Found - the first version of the song was released in 1992 as the 5th single of the artist's debut album. You can hear here Tyler Booth - a young musician who started performing from 2017. I like that they have not changed the musical arrangement, and the singer's voice sounds great.
6. Hard Workin' Man - the original version of the song was released in 1993 as the first single of the duo's second album under the same title. The artists are accompanied by Brothers Osborne duo who made their debut in this musical genre, especially the applied musical arrangement
7. You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone - the song was originally released in 1995 as the 4th single promoting the album "Waitin 'On Sundown". In the current version you can hear Ashley McBryde, who started performing from 2007. I will write honestly that I do not like the original performance like this new version. The artist's voice is great and I can't stop listening to this song.
8. My Maria - the original song was released in 1973 by B.W. Stevenson. Brooks & Dunn recorded the cover of this song, which was placed on their 4th album "Borderline" in 1996. The duo is accompanied by Thomas Rhett, who made his debut as Country singer in 2013. I like this version because artists have not changed the musical arrangement too much, and Thomas's vocals matches this composition.
9. Red Dirt Road - the original version of the song can be heard on the album of the same title released in 2003. The music is accompanied by Cody Johnson, who began his career in 2007. Personally, I prefer the first version of the song, which in my opinion is more energetic and better to listen to. However, the current version sounds a bit monotone to me.
10. Boot Scootin 'Boogie - Brooks & Dunn recorded the cover of this song in 1991, which was placed on the duo's debut album. You can hear here the band Midland, who started his career in 2016. I like the musical style of this song and the fact that they did not change the arrangement of the composition. It is worth noting that the artists creating the Midland band resemble Country musicians from the 80's and 90's both vocally and visually.
11. Mama Don't Get Dresses Up For Nothing - the original version of the song is on the album "Borderline" released as the 3rd single promoting this album. In the current version you can hear the band LANCO, which was created in 2015. I honestly admit that both in the original version and in this renewed I don't like this song.
12. Believe - the original song can be heard on the 9th album "Hillbilly Deluxe" released as the second single promoting. The duo is accompanied by Kane Brown, who made his debut in 2015. I like the fact that the musical arrangement has not been changed. The singer's voice complements the vocals of Ronnie Dunn.
I am very happy that Brooks & Dunn decided to release this album because it's great to hear them again together. I like the fact that they have invited other artists to watch out for, such as Ashley McBryde or Midland. I hope that we will hear some new songs from this duo.
I rate this album at 4.5 / 5
