"Re - Dunn" - a new album by Ronnie Dunn (My Review) [English Version]

Hey 😉

Today I will write about Ronnie Dunn's new album "Re - Dunn", which was released on January 10, 2020. This is the artist's 4 solo album consisting of 24 cover songs:

1. Amarillo By Morning - the song was first recorded by the singer Terry Standford in 1973. However, the version performed by Georg Strait from 1983 is the best known. I like the fact that Ronnie Dunn only slightly changed the musical arrangement.

2. Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress) - originally this song was sung by the British rock band The Hollies, who released this song in 1972. Although I personally don't like the music genre of Rock, I have to write that I liked it very much that song.

3. That's How I Got To Memphis - the composition was written and recorded by Tony T. Hall in 1969, and a year later (1970) was recorded by the singer Bobby Bare. I like the musical arrangement used here by Ronnie (especially electric guitars).

4. It's Never Rains In Southern California - the original version sung by Albert Hammond appeared in 1972. I think the cover of the song made by Ronnie Dunn is more expressive than the original version.

5. How Long - the song was first released by the British music group Ace in 1975. For this composition, I like the original more than the cover.

6. Drinkin 'Thing - the song in the original version was sung by Gary Stewart and was released in 1974. Both Ronnie's cover  and original   have something that makes it possible to listen to this song over and over again.

7. Together Again - the original performer was the wonderful artist Country Buck Owens, who recorded this song in 1964. Here you can see significant differences between these versions. In the first one, the musical arrangement is calmer, while in the 2nd one the fast tempo dominates and other instruments are used.

8. Peaceful Easy Feeling - the first performer of this composition was the band The Eagles, which released it in 1972. Although you can hear here the sounds of instruments that I love, somehow I don't like this song.

9. Against The Wind - originally this song was recorded by singer Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band in 1980. I think it is a great song in both the original version and Ronnie's version.

10. If You Don't Know Me By Now - the first performer of the composition was the music group Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, which was released in 1972. The cover of this  song Dunn shows that even a song from the genre R&B or Soul can be "transformed "on Country. Both versions are wonderful.

11. I Won't Back Down - the original performer was Tom Petty, who recorded this song in 1989. I like both versions very much.

12. The Cowboy Rides Away - the first version of the song was sung by George Strait in 1985. It is certain that no one will sing this song better than King Country, but the cover by Ronnie Dunn is also great.

13. Showdown - this composition is originally performed by the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), which recorded it in 1973. I really like both versions because they have an interesting musical arrangement and the words are catchy.

14. Wonderful Tonight - it was first sung by famous musician Eric Clapton in 1977. Both vocalists have characteristic voices, which makes both the original version and the cover very pleasant to listen to.

 15. Ashes By Now - this is a song composed and recorded by Rodney Crowell in 1978, and was released in 1980. I prefer the cover performed by Ronnie Dunn.

16. That's The Way Love Goes - the original performer of the song is Country artist Johnny Rodriguez, who recorded it in 1973. I like the musical arrangement used in the cover.

17. I'm Not In Love - the first performer of this song is the rock music group 10cc, which released it in 1975. Personally, I prefer the version sung by Dunn.

18. Brown Eyed Girl - the composition was originally recorded by the famous singer Van Morrison in 1967. It is a song that other artists from various musical genres often create their covers. It's nice to hear Ronnie Dunn's version.

19. You Don't Know Me - the song was first performed by Eddy Arnold in 1955. Ronnie Dunn already in 2014 recorded a cover of this song, which is on his album "Peace, Love, And Country Music".

20. Ridin' My Thumb To Mexico - originally the song is sung by Johnny Rodriguez, who released it in 1973. I like this composition very much, because it is very energetic and cool sounds of instruments were used here.

21. A Showman's Life - the first performer of this song is Jesse Winchester, who recorded it in 1978, but the version of George Strait in a duet with Faith Hill released in 2011 gained the most recognition. Honestly, Ronnie Dunn's cover is not bad, but in my opinion the musical arrangement is too calm.

22. Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues - originally the song is sung by musician Danny O'Keefe, who released it in 1971. Personally, I prefer a version of the song performed by Dunn.

23. Amie - this is a song from the rock band Pure Prairie League, released in 1975. In my opinion Ronnie's cover is better than the original.

24. I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love With You) - a composition written and recorded by the acclaimed
Country artist  Hank Williams in 1951. It can be seen that the Dunn version contains a refreshed musical arrangement, but not very changed what I think is the advantage of this song.

"Re-Dunn" is an album combining compositions of Country and Rock. I am positively surprised by the effect Ronnie Dunn achieved. The artist recorded songs from his youth. For a person of my age nearly 25 year old girl, this album shows that the earlier times were great artists with amazing songs that are worth listening to. Thanks to the singer, I discovered some cool rock bands or songs.

I rate this album 5/5.
