"Okie" - the new album by Vince Gill (My Review) [English Version]

Hey 😉

I didn't write for a few weeks because I spent my holidays by the sea 😁. During my absence on the music market, several new albums of Country artists appeared. In this post I will write about the recently released Vince Gill's album "Okie". The artist began his career in the 70s of the last century. First Vince played in the band, then in 1985 he recorded his first solo album "The Things That Matter" but only the third album "When I Call Your Name" released in 1989 brought him fame and recognition in the Country genre. It is worth noting that the singer is a multi-instrumentalist and winner of many CMA, ACM or GRAMMY awards.

"Okie" is the artist's 15th studio album released on August 23, 2019, which consists of 12 songs:

1. I Don't Wanna Ride The Rails No More - in my opinion it is a song about finding your permanent place in the world. I like the calm musical arrangement and you can hear the sound of guitars that I love.

2. The Price Of Regret - I like the music used in this song, but it's the song that touches me the most.

3. Forever Changed - the song raises a very important topic which is the sexual exploitation of children by adults and its impact on their lives. I admire the artist that he decided to refer to this heavy topic, which unfortunately is still valid.

4. An Honest Man - another calm song with a nice musical arrangement. I like the intro of this song.
5. What Choice Will You Make - this is one of the compositions that "tells" about real life in which you need to make various decisions that can affect them differently.

6. Black And White - another calm song. You can hear the cool sound of the instruments used here.

7. The Red Words - the song refers to the Bible or faith. I can assume that the title of the composition refers to love.

8. When My Amy Prays - a song dedicated to the wife of Vince Amy Grant, who is a recognized Christian singer. I like the musical arrangement used here.

9. A Letter To My Mama - a touching composition dedicated to the artist's mother. I think it's one of the best songs on this album.

10. Nothin 'Like A Guy Clark Song - the song differs in that the verses of the song are spoken and the chorus is sung. This makes the composition more interesting and not boring. The composition refers to Guy Clark - an American singer and composer.

11. That Old Man Of Mine - I like the musical arrangement that can be heard here. The song despite the more energetic music it presents a sad story.

12. A World Without Haggard - a wonderful and touching composition dedicated to Merle Haggard, a great Country artist. I can say that it is a tribute to the talented music mentioned by Vince Gill.

Listening to this album, to be honest, it can be concluded that the musical arrangements are monotonous or too calm and sometimes uniform. However, the artist somehow forces the listener to delve into the lyrics of a given song. That's what makes this album worth listening to. Vince Gill shows how talented he is an artist and composer who is not afraid to touch on difficult subjects like in the song "Forever Changed". Comparing to previous albums of this music, I think it is the most personal album he has ever released.

I rate this album 5/5
