The Speed Of Now: Part 1" - Keith Urban's new album refers to the past and the present (Review) [English Version]
Hey 😉
In this post I will write about Keith Urban's latest eleventh studio album "The Speed Of Now: Part 1", which was released on September 18, 2020.
The album consists of 16 songs:
1. Out The Cage - a song recorded with BRELAND (new country singer) and Nile Rodgers (guitarist and co-founder of Chic). A very cool and energetic song, where you can hear an interesting musical arrangement using technology.
2. One Too Many - unlike the previous song, the tempo is calmer. P!nk is a well-known Pop singer who has already recorded with Country artists. She has recorded with Kenny Chesney the song "Setting The World On Fire" from his album "Cosmic Hallelujah" (2016) and Chris Stapleton "Love Me Anyway" from her album "Hard 2B Human" (2019). I was very happy when I found out that the artist recorded a duet with Keith. However, I will write with a heavy heart that their performance together did not delight me.
3. Live With - words are catchy and I like the use of musical instruments in this song.
4. Superman - nice intro, another energetic composition, which is also a bit nostalgic when the narrator recalls his failed relationship and how happy he was with this person.
5. Change Your Mind - in my opinion it is the best song on this album. The way the artist sings this song makes the person move and feel the emotions accompanying the narrator.
6. Forever - I like the use of musical instruments especially guitars at the end of the song.
7. Say Something- a composition with an important message that sometimes it is worth to say something than to remain silent, an interesting musical arrangement.
8. Soul Food - I like the beginning of the song and its whole musical arrangement. It is one of those compositions that puts you in a good mood.
9. Ain't Like A Woman - interesting introduction to the song, although I don't like it. In my opinion it is a bit boring.
10. With You - an energetic song with an interesting musical arrangement. Here you can hear significant changes in the tempo of the song.
11. Tumbleweed - intriguing intro with banjo sound. A little reminds me of the artist's song "Days Go By" from the album "Be Here" (2004), leaving aside the fact that you can hear much more of the music technology used here.
12. God Whispered Your Name - this is 2 single promoting this album. It is a love song, where the narrator tells how his life changed after meeting his beloved. You can listen to this composition all the time.
13. Polaroid - without a doubt it is a composition about fulfilled love, but at the same time nostalgic because the narrator recalls the first meeting with his beloved girlfriend.
14. Better Than I Am - reminds me of the song "Tonight I Wanna Cry" from the singer's album "Be Here" (2004). The difference is that this song is more energetic and you can hear more musical instruments. Great sound of electric guitars at the end of the composition.
15. We Were - this is 1 single promoting the album. Another nostalgic song, with an energetic musical arrangement and catchy words. This is one of my favorite songs from this album.
16. We Were ft. Eric Church - this is a duo with the song's co-composer and a well-known country artist - Eric Church. Both singers could be heard together in the song "Raise 'Em Up" from Keith's album "Fuse" (2013). While in the earlier song they complemented each other very well, in this one I do not like their performance and I definitely prefer the solo version of this composition.
As you probably know Keith Urban is one of my favorite Country artists and I was looking forward to his new album. But I was a little disappointed with the album, despite a great start with "Out The Cage", it's a little boring afterwards (that's just my opinion). And I will probably expose myself to Keith's fans, but I think the artist can afford more than what he presented on this CD. Although I like the fact that the name of the album is a bit misleading because most of the compositions refer to the past than to the present. So I assume that the artist wanted to show how the events of the past can affect a person's present life.
I rate this album as 4/5.
