"kelsea' - new Kelsea Ballerini's album containing more Pop than Country music (Review) [English Version]
Hey 😉
The quarantine period of Coronavirus forces us to stay home. I guess like everyone else I hope that this crazy period of fear and uncertainty will soon end 🙏. One virus, and it can change the whole life of society. This also applies to artists of all kinds of music who have very wisely decided to cancel their concerts or participation in music festivals. Staying at home means much more time for various activities such as cleaning the house, watching your favourite series or listening to music. Unfortunately, not much is happening in my favourite music genre - Country - because all new albums (which I'm interested in) will appear in April or May 😏.
But the situation is "saved" by the young singer Kelsea Ballerini. who today (20 March 2020) released her third studio album "kelsea", which consists of 13 songs:
1. Overshare - the words are catchy and the music is easy to hear. But I think that too much technology was used here than instruments. It sounds like another pop song to me.
2. Club - I like the musical arrangement in this song. Typical song for a party.
3. Homecoming Queen? - This is the 1 single promoting this album. Probably the closest song to the Country genre. I think it's one of the better songs. The song touches on an important subject, which is pretending to be somebody else than you really are. The voice of the artist is very touching.
4. The Other Girl - this is a duo with another artist Halsey, a pop and rock singer. I have to admit that the singers complement each other very well in vocal terms. Although it is difficult to distinguish their voices by the musical arrangement used.
5. Love Me Like A Girl - I will honestly write that it reminds me a little of the song "Love Me Like You Do" by Ellie Goulding. Only words are different.
6. Love & Hate - a nice musical arrangement. I also like the calm pace of the song.
7. Bragger - cool music arrangement, words are catchy.
8. Hole In The Bottle - great sound of instruments can be heard here.
9. Half Of My Hometown - duo with famous artist Kenny Chesney. Finally, the song, which can be counted in the Country genre. Kenny and Kelsea complement each other very well in vocals. In my opinion one of the best songs from this album.
10. The Way I Used To - interesting intro and use of musical instruments. The words are catchy.
11. Needy - a cool, energetic musical arrangement. Another composition that you can listen to all the time.
12. A Country Song - an interesting musical arrangement. You can even consider it to be a Country Song.
13. LA - I like the instruments used here. I also like the calm tempo of the song (there is a slight change of tempo here).
Kelsea Ballerini started her career in 2015 when she released her debut album "The First Time". From the beginning you could see that her musical style is country-pop. It's a cool combination of country and pop, which is surely appreciated by fans of these genres. However, listening to the album "kelsea" I have an impression that it is a typical pop album with small elements of Country genre. I honestly hoped for something else. I don't write that this is a bad album, but it didn't delight me. If an artist likes this style, maybe she should "officially" switch to the Pop genre as Taylor Swift did in 2012/2013.
I rate this album as 3/5.
