"Outskirts" - album of Montgomery Gentry (My Review) [English Version]
Hey 😉
The band Montgomery Gentry on June 14, 2019 released the new 10 album "Outskirts". The songs were recorded before the tragic death of Troy Gentry in 2017. Despite this sad event, Eddie Montgomery decided to continue performing with the band.
The album consists of 7 songs:
1. Outskirts - this is an energetic composition. I like the division between Eddie and Troy, where each of them can present their vocal abilities and the sound of electric guitars.
2. River Take Me - I like the intro of this song. The song is performed by Troy Gentry and I think he goes great with this composition.
3. What Am I Gonna Do With The Rest Of My Life - this is a cover of a song performed by another great Country artist Merle Haggard. I don't know the original, but I like the way Montgomery Gentry made it.
4. Never Been Nothing Else - another energetic song with a nice musical arrangement. Personally, I can listen to this song all the time and the words are catchy.
5. You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive - the next cover of the song performed by singer Darrell Scott. Again, you can hear the voice of Troy Gentry, which I think perfectly captures emotions. Also noteworthy is the quiet musical arrangement that can be heard here. I don't know the original version.
6. King Of The World - originally this song can be heard on the album "Here's To You" (2018). Montgomery Gentry in this version perform it with Steve Vai.
7. Joe Six - Pack - in my opinion this is a party song. I like the intro and musical arrangement of the song.
It's great to hear Troy Gentry's voice again in the new songs. It is a pity that the band recorded only 7 songs, not more. You can get the impression that the album is dominated by energetic compositions, but still placed covers introduce balance.
I rate this album 4.5 / 5
