"Scars" - Collin Raye's return after 6 years with the new album (Album Review) [English Version]
Hey 😉
Collin Raye began his music career in 1991 with the release of his debut album "All I Can Be", which went platinum. His next albums: "In This Life" (1992), "Extremes" (1994),
"I Think About You" (1995) also received platinum status. On the other hand, the CD "The Walls Came Down" (1998) obtained gold status. The last released album of the artist is "Everlasting" (2014).
The album "Scars" was released on November 20, 2020 and consists of 14 songs:
1. Ghost Stories - interesting intro songs. I also like the musical arrangement you can hear here. It is a song about a failed relationship / unhappy love.
2. Scars - this is a duo with the famous country artist Miranda Lambert. Cool, calm musical arrangement. Collin's and the vocalists' voices match perfectly and convey emotions wonderfully. I like the change in tempo of the song. Personally, I think this is the best composition you can hear on this album.
3. Bad Storm Coming Tonight - great, positive love song. I like the intro of the song.
4. Dancing Alone In The Street - a calm musical arrangement. However, I don't really like the way it is made. It makes the song boring (for me).
5. Never Going Back There Again - energetic composition with a nice musical arrangement. A great change from the previous tracks. Great sound of electric guitars.
6. Loved By An Angel - Another quiet song. A beautiful composition in which the narrator is grateful for the time with his beloved.
7. Rodeo Girl - the musical arrangement and the instruments used here make the song sound like a typical country song from the 80s. The artist's voice is wonderful. I can listen to her all the time.
8. Chasing Renee - great, energetic song. The words are catchy. It reminds me a bit of a rock song in terms of the musical arrangement.
9. I've Got A Lot To Drink About - a calm musical arrangement. The vocalist's voice is very poignant. It is a song about unhappy love.
10. Ever Making Up Time - I like the intro and the musical instruments used in the piece. The words are catchy. Thanks to the change of pace, the song is not boring.
11. Let It Go Away - another calm composition. This is a song in which the narrator learns about his wife's betrayal.
12. Rock n Roll Bone - a song with energetic musical arrangement. In this track you can find links to famous artists such as Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones etc. The narrator / artist thus explains his interest in music.
13. Young As We're Ever Gonna Be - originally this track can be heard on the artist's album "Can't Back Down" (2001). Great piano sound at the beginning of the composition. However, in my opinion, the way of singing makes the song sound monotonous.
14. Mama Sure Could Sing - the most surprising song in terms of the way the song is performed in a positive sense. It reminds me of country compositions from the 70s or 80s.
A few years ago I was delighted with Collin Raye's voice. I was very happy to hear about his new album. The artist in this album shows that he can sing both calm and emotional compositions, but also fast and energetic songs. The album "Scars" perfectly shows the artist's vocal abilities. The only thing I miss on this CD are more energetic songs.
I rate this album: 4.5 / 5.
